- Provide a forum for experts in fisheries and aquatic science, practitioners, and the general public to share knowledge and experiences on the sustainable management and conservation of Africa’s inland water resources.
- Contribute to and improve research findings on African inland waters for in-reach and outreach.
- Make freshwater science accessible to policymakers, managers, and the general public.
- Increase the diversity of the freshwater science practitioner community.
- Expand membership and promote freshwater science on the continent.
- Promote the professional development of all members at all stages of their careers through specific programs and actions.
- Support graduate and undergraduate students and early career scientists to help train the next generation of freshwater scientists.
- Support higher learning institutions, educators and practitioners to identify research needs and develop relevant curricula for the education and training of fisheries and aquatic science experts in Africa.
- Promote dissemination of research outputs and information among society members and non-members through society’s Journal, conferences, workshops, newsletters and other media outlets.
- Promote and support diversity ad equity among stakeholders in the conservation and management of freshwater resources
